This course is cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR), first aid, and automated external defibrillator (AED) use combined into one program.  It is designed to teach the techniques to administer CPR, first aid, and utilize an AED in emergency situations involving infants, children, and adults.

The CPR and AED components cover the knowledge needed to address one of the largest causes of death in the world. Intervening with this knowledge can possibly save a life. The first aid program reviews common techniques to treat serious emergencies, as well as less serious, more common issues.

How to take this course

There are two components to your training in order to receive your certification.  The first is academics and the second is skills.  You must first pass your academics training to proceed to the second phase and work with an instructor in a classroom setting.

Face to face practical section

1⃣ Basic First Aid Skills

• How to assess a medical emergency
• Primary and secondary assessments (checking responsiveness, breathing, and injuries)
• Calling emergency services (000 in Australia)

2⃣ CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation)

• Adult, child, and infant CPR techniques
• How to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

3⃣ Treatment of Common Injuries & Emergencies

• Cuts, wounds, and bleeding control
• Burns and scalds
• Fractures, sprains, and strains
• Choking and airway obstructions
• Shock management

4⃣ Medical Emergencies

• Stroke and heart attack response
• Allergic reactions and anaphylaxis (including EpiPen use)
• Asthma and breathing difficulties
• Seizures and diabetic emergencies

5⃣ Environmental Injuries

• Heatstroke and hypothermia
• Poisoning and bites/stings (especially relevant for outdoor activities and diving)

6⃣ Practical Scenarios & Hands-On Training

• Simulated emergency situations
• Bandaging and wound care practice
• CPR practice on mannequins
